A Woman’s place?
ACT I
Tradition- rusty voice
Says “Home”
The new millennium and
modern science
Shift uncomfortably
Woman is seen
Caught in the paradigms
That create romance,
Numerous expectations; she is
Trapped
in fairy tales
Alluring fantasies
That gloss her inability to assert
To act
Culture and custom connive
As women are made to
Wait to be rescued
To be willing prisoners
Dungeons or nurseries
Even a place near a hearth
ACT II
New Windows open
When the screen scrolls down
Women are fleeing
Escaping the margins
exponentially
No more waiting for heroes or fathers
For princes or brothers
Or the man who assumes he is god
She is moving away from mud
Stagnant pools where futile frogs
Wait to be kissed.
